Burke W. Whitman is a chief executive, board director, ordained minister, and former US Marine. Unique among his generation of American leaders, he has served as both a Fortune 500 CEO and a U.S. Marine Commanding General.
In business he serves as CEO of Colmar Holdings and on the Boards of Directors of Omega (NYSE:OHI) and Amicus (Nasdaq:FOLD). Previously , he was CEO of HMA (Fortune 500 and NYSE), CFO of Triad (Fortune 500 and NYSE), and President of Deerfield Health (private equity), all merged. In parallel, he served as an infantry and general officer of US Marines for 34 years, with approximately half of that on active duty, during which he led multiple combat deployments, commanded forces at all levels including Commanding General of a Marine Division and of Marine Forces, and finished as a General Officer with the Secretary of Defense. As a volunteer, Burke has served on numerous boards including the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, Toys For Tots Foundation, Federation of American Hospitals, US Secretary of Defense, Buckhead Coalition, Lovett School, and Piedmont Health Foundation; he is a national member of Business Executives for National Security, and an ordained minister and priest. Burke is a graduate of Dartmouth College, Harvard Business School, the Army War College, and Nashotah Theological Seminary, and is a university lecturer and speaker. Institutional Investor magazine named him a Best CFO and Best CEO; the nation awarded him two dozen military decorations including the Distinguished Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbons, and Presidential Unit Citation; and Dartmouth awarded him its James Wright Award for Distinguished Service for a lifetime exemplifying the ideals of service, college, and country.
